Stop getting buyer’s remorse

I feel like we ALL get buyer’s remorse from time to time. Especially during tax season. You get money back and you know you should put all of it towards bills, but you buy a few things for yourself. Why? Well because you earned it. I mean we work our asses off all year round and we get all these taxes taken out each paycheck. I got $10,000 taken out in taxes. To me that’s hard earned money and I don’t know where half that shit goes to today. Truly. So yesterday, on my day off, I went to Target, bought 2 organizers for my house, a book, spring/summer shoes, bathing suit, 2  t-shirts, flip flops and a body wash. So a few items I needed and a few I wanted. Seems legit right? Wrong! I had instant guilt, so I called my boyfriend Matt so he could reassure me that I deserve to refresh a few things per season.

So I needed organizers, one for under my sink and for my underwear an sock drawer. I needed to refresh my flip flops so I can throw away ones I’ve had for years. I needed a new bathing suit, again some need to be thrown away. However I didn’t need a book, but it was the new Rachel Hollis book, Girl Stop Apologizing, and it was on sale so I grabbed it because I know I’ll read it! I didn’t need the sandals, but I feel like with Target, it’s still a decent price and if I didn’t buy them, by the time I’d go back they would be gone.

The REMORSE part was, what the total bill came to. Target can cost you and it adds up quickly. I mean I can rack up a bill anywhere, Marshalls, Home Goods, ULTA, Nordstrom, anywhere. I think we just have to look in our carts and baskets and determine what we need versus, what we want. I mean I want it ALL! I love to shop, it’s therapy for me and it’s inspirational as well. I often tell myself, at least I’m buying quality items now, and not designer all the time or rarely I should say, but quality to me, is stuff for my house, clothes I’m going to get a few years out of. Not club clothes or alcohol every weekend like I use to do. What a waste of money that was. (I had fun, but still was costly)

I would love to get to a point and I think I speak for us all, where I could just be comfortable. Rich is always a nice dream, but I’ll shoot for comfortable. I want to buy some nice things from time to time, travel, and work from home one day! I want to send my kid to private school and college. I want to buy a car that I love. I want to contribute more to my household for myself and my boyfriend. Money they say is the root of all evil and blah blah blah, but damn it we need money to survive. We want money to spend a little extra. To show ourselves that we deserve things we need and want, because we work our asses off for it.

Make a list every time you go out to shop, and write a list of needs, ex. food, household items and bathing items, etc. Then make a list of wants, ex. book, shirt, shoes, earrings, bag, etc. Now budget, make sure you buy all the needs, and if you have some left over in the budget, then add 2 wants. Save the other wants for your next trip. We don’t have to have it all at once. I know we get that urge to throw it in the cart, especially if it’s on sale, but resist a little. Say to yourself, “next time.” Keep a list of wants and cross each item off as you go on your outings. Look forward to the want, you will appreciate it more, I promise!!
